SEGA will play host to the first ever Like A Dragon Direct next Wednesday. The showcase will give fans a look at the latest news, trailers and more on two of the franchise’s upcoming games. The Like A Dragon Direct will be broadcast from developer Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio’s first Western showcase and will go over both Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name and the game that was originally slated to be called Yakuza 8: Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth.
The event will air on Wednesday at 9pm PT/12am ET/5am BST/6am CEST. You can tune in via SEGA’s official Twitch and YouTube channels.
There’s been a lot of showcases and announcement-filled video game live streams lately. May kicked things off with a PlayStation Showcase that revealed a Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater remake and the return of the Marathon series. June then saw a Nintendo Direct that gave us a deep dive into the company’s surprisingly packed fall lineup. There was also a second E3 showcase, a Death Stranding Direct from Sony and a Starfield Direct from Bethesda.
Adding to the list of events was the OTK Games Exp, which is a streamer-run gaming convention that featured new trailers for titles such as Atomic Picnic, Gangs of Sherwood and Alien Hominid Invasion. Streamer-run media outlet OTK also used the show to announce its new publishing label, Mad Mushroom.
Then there was the Devolver Digital showcase that aired on June 8, featuring a host of weird and wonderful titles such as Baby Steps, Human Fall Flat 2, The Talos Principle II and Wizard with a Gun. The company even threw in a short film featuring its wacky mascot Volvy, who has become something of an internet legend.
But the biggest announcement of all was a new entry in the Yakuza series, which will see Kiryu returning once more in the high-octane action-adventure Like a Dragon Gaiden: The man who erased his name. The game will be out in 2023 for PS4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PC via Steam and will shed light on events leading up to Yakuza 8.
To mark the reveal, Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio released an original video depicting Kiryu and Nishiki growing up at the Sunflower Orphanage and heading to Tokyo. Check it out below. Pre-orders for the game are available now and will come with the Legendary Dragon Pack featuring Daigo Dojima, Goro Majima and Taiga Saejima as special guests. The digital Deluxe edition on all platforms will grant five days of early access and include the Kijinmaru Kunishige katana, Black Ship Cannons and Tsuyano Usukurenai legendary katana. More details on the upcoming Like A Dragon Direct will be revealed in September. In the meantime, you can watch a teaser trailer for the game here
